Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are the criteria for being listed in the Quilt Index?
A. There are only a very few guidelines. First, the website must sell products
online, meaning they must advertise the products, list the prices, and give some way to
purchase them, whether through use of a shopping cart or an order form. The order form can
be of the variety that you print and mail to the store, but a link to email without use of
a form is not sufficient. The shop must have an email link on their site so that we can
send them updates about their listing at QuiltIndex.com. The site must be in English, or
have an English version. The products sold must include items with a quilting theme, or
items used in the quilting trade. Sites offering only finished quilts or other finished
craft items will not be included.
Q. Why is my favorite store not listed?
A. Assuming they meet the criteria listed above, I probably just don't know about
them. Let me know about them, by filling in the Recommendation
form.
Q. How many quilt shops do you have listed here?
A. There are currently over 600 quilt shops indexed. And yes, I've visited them all.
At length. :)
Q. How often is this site updated?
A. QuiltIndex.com is continually being added to. If you want to see what new shops
have been recently added, for instance, go to the Search
Engine and scroll to the bottom to select the time frame for new additions. In addition
to adding new sites, it is my goal to revisit each shop once every six months. Visitors and
quilt shop owners are, of course, welcome to email me any time they have new additions or
have made changes, and that will make the updates get made that much faster. If you notice
something that isn't correct, please tell me.
Q. When I print the free patterns, the right-hand side is cut off, and I don't get
all of the instructions. How can I fix this?
A. Your printer should have some kind of "Fit to Page" setting. If you check that
option, you should be able to print the pattern without any trouble.
Q. What kind of information do you put in your newsletter?
A. We'll list any updates/improvements to this site. In addition, quilt shops will be
welcomed to add their news to the newsletter. If you don't like getting email from several
quilt shops, this could be a great way for you to get several shops' news in one email. Of
course, you may want to drop your favorite shop a line telling them this, so that they will
be sure to fill me in on whatever is happening at their place.
Q. Why haven't I received a copy of the newsletter?
A. Well, assuming you signed
up for it before the first of this month, you probably either didn't click the option
to sign up for the newsletter, or you entered your email address incorrectly.
Email me and we'll get it straightened out.
Q. Who are you?
A. The site is designed and maintained by Dana Jones, a quilter in Indiana, with
help from her husband, Mike Gunderloy - a programmer, author, and web
developer in his own right.
